Richard Paul Lohse was not merely a painter
and graphic artist of radical constructive stringency and astonishing sensual colour energy. He was also a thinker who reflected
on his art and society, and who was passionately committed to social justice.
In the twentieth century the "two avant-gardes" – the artistic and the political – which so often remained irreconcilable, for once, in Lohse, coincided.
